Two dead after house fire in Paige

Two women were found dead inside a Bastrop County home after a fire destroyed it overnight on Wednesday.

Officials say roughly 75 percent of the home was destroyed. The residence is located on Cooke Street off of FM 2104 in Paige, which is just east of Elgin.

Bastrop Fire Chief Josh Gill says that they received a call just after 1 a.m. and when they arrived flames were coming out of the house.

One body was found when firefighters entered the home. The second body was discovered inside after the fire was put out. Their identities have not been released.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
