Update on body found in Bastrop County

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office has released some new information about the body that was found in the 100 block of Berdoll Lane in Cedar Creek on May 12. Bastrop County Investigators, Texas Rangers and the Travis County Search and Rescue team returned to the scene and located the body's skull within close proximity of the original location of the body.

The body was found with advanced stages of decomposition. An autopsy by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office revealed the body was a female but the race is still not known.

The exact cause of death has yet to be determined and no positive identification has been made.

Authorities say additional evidence at the scene suggests varmint activity may have been the cause of some dismemberment of the body.

The Medical Examiner is conducting additional DNA tests to determine more detailed  physical descriptions. The information is expected to be helpful when searching for possible missing persons.
