Wild fire in Bastrop contained, Highway 71 reopens

UPDATE: August 20, 2017 at 11 am

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the Royal Pines Fire in Bastrop County is estimated to be 25 acres at 90% containment. Fire growth has been stopped since Saturday evening.

Thirty homes were saved and no homes were lost or damaged.

Crews are working today to improve fire lines and mop-up hot spots on the fire.

The Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management has announced that all evacuated residents can return to their homes after firefighters contained a wild fire that was spreading in the area.

One lane of westbound Highway 71 was reopened but only for residents of Royal Pines.

According to the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management , the wild fire had spread across approximately 35 acres. It is now estimated to be 40 percent contained. 

Mandatory evacuation orders were given to residents earlier. 

According to estimations by Texas A&M Forest Service, 30 homes were threatened by the wild fire.

No houses were lost in this wild fire. Multiple fire departments responded.
