A woman is in critical condition after an early morning fire in Northwest Austin.

The fire happened just after midnight at a duplex, 4500 Brown Bark Place just south of Parmer Lane.

Firefighters say when they arrived thy saw heavy smoke and flames going through the roof. They entered through a back window and found a woman, with no pulse, in her bedroom.

Crews performed CPR and once she was revived, she was taken to a nearby hospital in Round Rock. Shortly afterward, she was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center, formerly Brooke-Army Medical Center. She is fighting second and third-degree burns.

The woman's husband made it out alive with minor smoke inhalation injuries. Two people on the other side of the duplex were not hurt, but are displaced.

Firefighters are working to figure out the cause of the fire. They say that they did not hear any smoke alarms when they arrived.

The home is a total loss. Damage is estimated at $150,000 for the building and about $50,000 for the contents inside.

The Red Cross is helping the victims.
