Man arrested for sex assault on 6th Street

Austin police say a man was caught on video sexually assaulting a woman outside a bar on 6th Street. He is in jail. It's possible another man may be charged as an accomplice.

Austin police say on Sunday at 10 a.m., a witness got video that clearly shows 34-year-old Darius Maxwell sexually assaulting a woman.

She was lying in the doorway of the Lit Lounge and was unconscious. The witness says another man appeared to serve as a look out while Maxwell committed the assault.

Officers arrested Maxwell and charged him with the second degree felony of sexual assault. They are now looking into whether to charge the man who was with him.

"If the person played an active role in it then there should be subsequent prosecution for that, but the relationship or determining what occurred is still being investigated," said Officer Hank Aguilar.

Travis County court records show Maxwell has an extensive criminal history which includes 21 felony arrests since 2003 and 12 misdemeanor arrests since 2007.
