Phoenix Fire officials said a seven-month-old boy who was found inside a hot car is dead.

According to a brief statement by Captain Reda Bigler with Phoenix Fire earlier on Friday, the incident happened at the 4500 block of Monte Cristo. The child was found in a hot car, and reportedly spent hours inside, in the heat.

"I probably walk by that little boy, and had no clue he was in the car," said Mark Peterson, who cleaned the family's pool. "It's tough."

Peterson said he finished cleaning the family's pool, at approximately 3:15 p.m., and the family would remember that the boy was inside the car, 45 minutes later. Peterson recalled seeing the child's father at around 3:15 p.m.

"He was coming out of the house, wasn't agitated or anything." said Peterson. "I waved to him, and he waved back, and then I drove off."

"Emotional, for sure," said neighbor Steven Ohleman. "It just kind of makes you appreciate your own family."

"I think the message should be just make sure you check your vehicle constantly," said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with Phoenix Police. "Make sure that anybody who enters that car, for whatever reason, just take the time to actually look and examine the vehicle."

Police officials have yet to say which family member was responsible for forgetting the infant. The investigation is ongoing.
