Police are searching for a suspect after a robber cut a woman's throat and stole her purse in an H-E-B parking lot. It happened at the H-E-B on South Congress at Oltorf around 1:30 a.m.
Police say the woman was making her way to back her car on the west side of the building when she was attacked. Police say the man cut her throat with a sharp object. An H-E-B security guard heard her screaming and went to help. He took off his reflective vest and used it to try and stop the bleeding until EMS crews arrived.
The victim was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. She is currently in stable condition and is able to talk with officers.
Police say the suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-40s, 5'6" in height and has short, dark hair. They say this incident doesn't appear to be connected to any other case they are currently working.
Officers say there is some security camera video which should help in the investigation. If you know anything you're asked to contact police.
The H-E-B location where it happened is open 24 hours so it was open during the attack. An H-E-B spokesperson says employees are being offered counseling and time off which is standard procedure when this type of incident happens.
