A Georgetown couple faces child endangerment charges after police say they had their 13-year-old daughter drive them home.
They claimed to have had too much to drink that night.
On Saturday night police got a call about someone recklessly driving along I-35 North. To their surprise, it was a young girl.
They initiated a traffic stop.
When officers got to the truck, they say a strong odor of alcohol was coming from inside.
50-year-old Alvaro Benitez and his wife reportedly had bloodshot eyes.
They admitted to police that they had been at Club Vongos that night.
Both parents thought it would be safer to have their 13-year-old daughter drive them and their 7-year-old home.
Officers say the truck was going around 25 to 30 miles per hour, well below the 70 mile per hour posted speed limit.
It was also weaving in and out of lanes.
"It's really unfortunate. It's actually really scary for those situations because such a young child, there's not a long they can do or say at that age. There is something that they can do. what they can do is call 911, call a friend or tell another grown up that way they can go ahead and have them intervene and speak to the parent," said Raul Vasquez with MADD.
Benitez is in the Travis County Jail also facing a DWI charge.
Criminal records show this isn't his first.
His was arrested for DWI in December of 1986 then December of 1990, three more in 1991 and a sixth time in May of 2002.
