In the shooting near Highland Mall on Canion Street, police say a man knocked on the door of the house. When the couple inside opened it, they didn't recognize him and quickly shut the door. Police say the suspect then opened fire with a bullet hitting a woman in the torso. She was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
Police say they don't know a motive but say it appears to be random. They advise people that "if they hear a knock and they are not expecting anybody to be coming by, don't open the door. If the resident feels this person is trying to gain entry to the home, try to find a secure area and call 9-1-1."
Police say they've detained the suspect in the Canion Street incident and say there's no threat to the public.
