FOX 7 Debates: Texas transgender bathrooms

A federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked President Obama's directive on bathroom rights for transgender students in public schools. Texas and 12 other states filed a lawsuit asking for that injunction.

Earlier this year, the federal government announced public schools across the U.S. must allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. A U.S. district judge issued that injunction on Sunday in Fort Worth.

This blocks the justice department from enforcing the president's directive. A spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign said the decision puts transgender students at risk of harassment and discrimination.

Joining FOX 7's Rebecca Thomas to discuss this topic are: Lucy Stein, the advocacy director of Progress Texas and Matt Mackowiak, G.O.P. consultant.
