Funeral Services for Savannah State Student Killed Last Week

A public viewing will take place Friday night for a Savannah State University student killed last week.

Christopher Starks was a graduate of Miller Grove High School in DeKalb County, where he was a standout on the football team. Starks was shot and killed during a fight at SVU's student union.

Starks' viewing will be held Friday night at Hammond Missionary Baptist Church in Palmetto. His funeral service is Saturday at noon at Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia.

Uncle, Pastor Collier Starks, leader of Rebirth Christian Outreach Center, told FOX 5 News the last words his nephew said to his brother Jamel Starks, who plays for Miller Grove High School's varsity football team.

"Go play the game. Play the right way. He said, I love you and I'll be there," said Pastor Starks.

Jamel Starks, number 26, chose to play last weekend despite his family's grief over Christopher's death.

"He said that's what his brother would have wanted him to do," Starks said.

Following high school, Starks played football at Appalachian State University and then transferred to Savannah State after he suffered an injury.
