Middle school teacher accused of Fort Worth double murder

A middle school teacher was arrested on campus Monday for allegedly murdering two people in Fort Worth.

Cary Joseph Heath, 35, is charged with capital murder for the deaths of two men in his neighborhood on Buffalo Springs Drive in south Fort Worth.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, he went to a party at his neighbor’s house Saturday night. He had cordial conversation with his neighbor and others for a few minutes and then left the party.

Heath later returned with an assault rifle. A witness told police he rang the doorbell and then struck his neighbor with the butt of the rifle. Minutes later he shot and killed the man and his friend, the police document states.

Heath allegedly pointed the gun at the witness after he yelled for him to stop. "Do you have a problem?" Heath asked the witness, according to the affidavit.

He then ran back to his own house to hold his baby. He handed the child back to his wife and told her, “This is the last time I’ll see the baby. I killed two people,” the affidavit states.

Heath was arrested Monday at Permenter Middle School in Cedar Hill.

"It's very scary because you have all the kids over there and you don't want any kids to get hurt whether they're yours or anybody else's. Because they should be safe over there just to go to school and get their education and come home," said Teresa Moreno, a parent at the school.

Before Heath's bio was removed from the school’s website, it listed him as an eighth grade science teacher who served in the U.S. Air Force for 13 years. This was his first year teaching at Permenter.

He is being held on a $1 million dollar bond.

Police have not yet released the names of the victims.
