Benbrook mom faces murder charges for daughters' deaths

The mother of two young Benbrook sisters found dead in their home was charged with two counts of murder on Monday.

Benbrook police found the 1-year-old and 5-year-old dead in their beds when they arrived on scene in the 6600 block of Waterwood Trail last Thursday morning.

The girls’ mother, Sofya Tsygankova, 31, was also found with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she still remains held for mental health reasons. Police said Monday the stab wounds were self-inflicted.

The girls were also the daughters of world-renowned Ukranian pianist Vadym Kholodenko. He called 911 after going to the house to pick up the girls. Tsygankova was the estranged wife of Kholodenko.

Police served the mother in the hospital with the two murder warrants. She will remain hospitalized until she is considered well enough to be taken to the Tarrant County jail.

Tsygankova has a $2 million bond.
