Big Tex up and ready for 2017 State Fair of Texas

The big guy is up and ready to welcome people to the State Fair of Texas

Big Tex, the 55-foot-tall cowboy with his 95-gallon hat and size 70 boots, was installed at his usual spot on Friday morning in Fair Park.

Big Tex is wearing a special Texas Strong button for this year's fair to honor the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The fair said the same button Big Tex is wearing will be sold (a smaller, people-sized version, of course) for $2 at the fair with all funds going toward relief efforts.

This is the 65th year Big Tex will greet fairgoers and the fifth year for the current version of Big Tex. The previous Big Tex infamously burned down at the 2012 fair.

This year’s fair theme is Celebrating Texans. Some notable concert acts at this year’s fair include Flo Rida, Wilson Phillips and Charlie Daniels Band. The Big Tex Choice Award winners for food are the Gulf Coast Fish Bowl  and the Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger.

The fair kicks off its three week run on Sept. 29.
