3-year-old dies after being found in hot car in north Houston

- "This little kid is the poster child of the energizer bunny," said family friend Chris Johnson. "He was on the go 100 percent of the time."

Police say the 3-year-old, who was the youngest of four children, was at his home in the 1200 block of Hopper Thursday afternoon when he somehow slipped out the front door.

"Everybody's wanting to rip the family apart how can you leave your kid in a hot car like that," Johnson said. "That's not the case."

Police say the little boy crawled into the car to possibly get a toy. He got into the car through the front door and investigators say he climbed into the back. But they say he could not get out because the back doors had child safety locks.

"A friend of theirs showed up and found him in the car, and they started doing CPR... I guess with the call taker with HFD," Johnson said.

Police say family members told them the boy was missing from 30 to 45 minutes.

"I heard he was inside the car till the point that he was blue," said neighbor Marlene Gonzalez.

"This is what I would say is a complete freak accident," Johnson said. "No one saw him or heard him go outside."

While the investigation is on going, police say right now it appears the child's death is a tragic accident, and no criminal charges will be filed.

The close knit neighborhood is heartbroken over the little boy's death.

"Cause I have kids of my own and it's kind of sad, you know, cause it hurts. He's our neighbor. I would see him outside playing," Gonzalez said.
