Dogs rescued from Korean dog meat farm arrive in Dallas

- Half a dozen dogs will temporarily call Dallas their new home as after being rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea.

Humane Society International rescued more than 250 dogs and puppies from a dog meat farm in Wonju, South Korea.

Out of the 250 dogs, 6 of them were transferred to the SPCA of Texas where they will be evaluated and treated for any medical issues and later be put up for adoption.

All of the rescued dogs are now with shelters that are part of The Humane Society of the United States’ Emergency Placement Partner program.

The rescue organization worked with the farm owner to permanently shut down his farm and remove all dogs from miserable conditions.

As part of the plan, the farmer signed an agreement with the Humane Society to stop raising dogs for meat and permanently leave the trade.

The farmer intends to focus on scrap metal as his new business.

More than two million dogs are killed every year in South Korea resulting in over 100,000 tons of dog meat consumed annually, according to the Animal Welfare Institute.
