Woman charged in street shooting death of man

A woman who was named a suspect in the shooting death of a man she knew has been charged with murder after she surrendered to police.

Debra Morgan Davis, 58, walked into the Houston Police Department southeast patrol station at around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

A detective tells FOX 26 News that Davis found Rodney Johnson with a girlfriend and shot him in the middle of a southeast Houston street.

Police say Johnson, 49, was outside on Cathedral Drive near Wilmington Street with his girlfriend when Davis approached them and started arguing with him before shooting him and driving away at around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnson was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital but was pronounced dead there.

HPD initially identified Johnson as Davis' common law husband, but an attorney representing Roger Davis says that Roger is the common law husband of Debra. The attorney claims that Johnson is the father in-law of Debra's daughter and that Debra filed for divorce from Roger in Fort Bend County in September 2016.

Roger says he was not notified for the divorce filing until March 2017.
