Leander Police Seeking the Public's Assistance in Identifying July 4th Shooting Suspect from Surveillance Video

At approximately 4:15AM, July 4, 2014 Leander Police Department responded to the intersection of Marin Cove and Union Street, in the Horizon Park Subdivision, on a report of a shooting. An off-duty Texas D.P.S. Sergeant, Eugenio Cruz, Jr., was driving home in his personal vehicle when he was flagged down by a suspect who approached his car and fired a gun at the trooper's car striking the driver's side window, but missing the trooper. The suspect, described only as a White or Hispanic male, fled on foot. The trooper was treated and released from the hospital for minor injuries from broken glass.

On Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2014, Leander Police have released video and stills that Detectives obtained from surveillance cameras located in the park adjacent to the location where the incident occurred, just moments before the shooting.

The video and stills show the two subjects handling what appears to be a firearm with a flashlight attachment. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the two persons of interest seen on the surveillance video in connection with the shooting.

Detectives are also looking to identify a possible witness that reportedly drove past the shooting scene on Union Street just after the shooting occurred. The vehicle is described only as a dark 4-door sedan.

The Leander Police Department have released the video and stills on the department Facebook page to elicit assistance from the public in identifying the individuals.

Leander Police are encouraging anyone who may know the two individuals on the surveillance to contact the Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS (8477) or text "tip103 + your message" to CRIMES (274367). Call and text tips to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and could earn the tipster a cash reward.
