Boy, 9, killed during soccer practice

- A 9-year-old boy died after suffering severe head trauma at a New York City school Sunday morning.

Authorities responding to a 911 call for an injured male at the building on West 50th Street in Manhattan at around 10 a.m. found Tommaso Cerase unconscious and unresponsive.

He ran into the goal post and it fell on him.

The boy was at the school with eight other children and three adults for a soccer practice with his church group.

Tommaso was taken to Roosevelt Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The city medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina released a statement saying: "This tragic incident is heartbreaking and our thoughts are with this student’s family and school community during this devastating time."
