Newborn baby boy found alive in dumpster, taken to hospital

EVERETT, Wash. -- A newborn infant was found alive in a dumpster in Everett and taken to a hospital Friday night, police said.

At about 8:20 p.m., a passerby heard what sounded like cries coming from the dumpster and called police. Officers found a newborn baby boy still alive in the dumpster at the Mirabella Apartments in the 800 block of 112th Street Southeast and took the infant to the Providence  Regional Medical Center, a police spokesman said.

Neighbors said the dumpster is actually a large compactor that crushes the garbage. So the baby was fortunate to still be alive.

Police are asking that anyone who knows anything about the newborn to call the Everett Police Department.

No other details were immediately available.

Under Washington's Safe Haven laws you can bring a newborn child (up to 3 days old) to any fire station or hospital and surrender them with no questions asked.
