Possible friendly fire in Brooklyn cop shooting

- A police detective attempting to arrest suspects in connection with a drug deal in a car was shot, likely by friendly fire, in Brooklyn Tuesday evening, authorities said. One suspect was also shot.

The detective was reportedly conscious and alert while being rushed to Elmhurst Hospital. "Officer shot in left shoulder. Stable condition, conscious, alert and talking," tweeted Sgt. Carlos Nieves, an NYPD spokesman.

Nieves said that two suspects were taken into custody Tuesday. A third suspect -- the alleged driver -- was arrested Wednesday. The suspect that was shot was listed in stable condition. "The two suspects in the car where the drug deal occurred have significant criminal histories," the NYPD tweeted.

Police said four shots were fired. The detective was apparently hit by police crossfire as he tried to dive through the window of the car the suspects were in.

The shooting happened near Wilson Avenue and Troutman Street in Bushwick.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was headed to the hospital, his office said. De Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton were out of town Tuesday attending the funeral of Bratton's father.
