Weather causing some issues on area roads

It's a bit of a rough new year's morning on area roads. In Austin, rain is making for slick streets but out in the Hill Country that rain is freezing.

The good news in the Austin metro area is that while the streets may be slick, there's no ice on the road right now.

In the Hill Country it's a different story. Chris Bishop with TxDOT says there were reports of icy road conditions in Mason County and a few slick spots in Gillespie and Blanco counties overnight.

The agency has hundreds of crews out this morning, monitoring roads to make sure they don't get too bad.

The Hill Country is under a winter storm warning until noon.

City leaders in the Hill Country worked Wednesday to prepare for any possible bad weather.

In Fredericksburg, sand trucks were loaded up and ready to go. The city also hired additional firefighters to handle any crashes.

Road conditions could change depending on where you are driving. So remember to take it slow, even if the streets are just wet.
