Williamson County Crisis Center responds to recent domestic violence murders

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Two domestic violence murders within two weeks in Williamson County has a crisis center urging victims to reach out for help. In one of the cases, a man was the victim.

Hope Alliance C.E.O. Patty Conner says there is a solemn mood in her Round Rock office.

"The feeling is that we, we're not doing enough to help victims, victims aren't reaching out for a number of reasons," said Conner.

Williamson County sheriff's deputies say on February 27th, Nancy Khan shot her husband, Round Rock Kia General Manager Ali Khan seven times in their Paloma Lake home. Two of the shots were in his head.

"Normally when someone is shot that many times three's a lot of anger involved," said Captain Fred Thomas.

Then, on Monday deputies say Jessica Grace was fatally shot in her Taylor-area home by her husband Ryan who then killed himself.

The deaths bring the total of domestic violence murders in Williamson County to three since January.

"The feeling is we've got to do more," said Conner.

Conner encourages those who think that could be me to get help immediately.

"It's probably the most important thing to do is pick up the phone and call our hotline. It's probably also the most difficult thing to do," said Conner.

Court documents show there was a history of violence in the Khan residence. Deputies say in August of 2014, then, Nancy Flores, bit Ali Khan's hand and struck him in the chest with her feet. A criminal complaint was filed against her for the misdemeanor of assault causing bodily injury family violence on January 27th. That was exactly one month before Khan's death.

Conner says the case of men as victims of domestic violence is very rare.

"Hope Alliance probably serves fewer than six men and their families per year. Do I believe it's happening more? Probably," said Conner. "There's a stigma and I would say forget all of that and help save yourself by reaching out for help."

Hope Alliance in Round Rock serves 450 women and children at its shelter every year.

When male victims seek help, the agency gives them hotel rooms.
