Dayna Mager, a photographer from Michigan, explained that her husband snapped the widely-shared photo and that it reminded her of a "promise" she had made to her daughter, Luella.

Mager explained that she and her husband, Matt, had gone to a religious event shortly after Luella's birth and heard a heartbreaking story from a missionary who had spent time at an orphanage in Uganda.

She looked at him and said, "After about a week of them being here, and crying out for countless hours, they eventually stop when they realize no one is coming for them..."

Mager said the story broke her heart and that it prompted her to make a promise to always come to her daughter's aid.
