Dying dog accompanied by hundreds for "last walk on the beach"

NEWQUAY, England (FOX 32 Chicago) - A beloved 18-year-old dog got a warm welcome at the beach on the day of his last walk.
Walnut the whippet had been slowly going downhill for months now, and his owner, Mark Woods of Newquay, England, decided it was time to put him to sleep.
Woods asked on Facebook if anyone would like to join them for one last walk on their favorite beach before they see the veterinarian.
To Woods' surprise, hundreds of people were waiting for them at the beach. Woods had to carry Walnut, who was no longer able to walk.
They enjoyed an hour on the beach before Woods returned home with Walnut, who was put to sleep on Saturday morning.
