BALD EAGLE EGG WATCH: Eaglet close to hatching

An eaglet is getting closer and closer from hatching in one of the eggs belonging to the two bald eagles that have been nesting high up in the trees at the U.S. National Arboretum.

A 'pip' or small crack in the egg had begun to develop earlier this week – a sign that an eaglet is on the way. The crack has turned into a hole where the eaglet's beak has been seen poking out of the shell.

The parental eagle pair, named "Mr. President" and "The First Lady," have been a viral hit since the American Eagle Foundation and the National Arboretum began streaming images of them online.

"The First Lady" laid her first egg of 2016 on February 10th, and laid her second egg on February 14th early in the morning.

Officials at the American Eagle Foundation say the egg could hatch within 12 to 48 hours of a full 'pip' developing.

An amazing shot of the eaglet's beak poking out of the shell! Tune into!
