Chicago Bears link arms, Pittsburgh Steelers stay in locker room during national anthem

CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - Players on the Chicago Bears football team linked arms during the national anthem on Sunday in a show of support for colleagues who have been trying to bring attention to racism and police violence.

The Bears' opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers, decided to stay in the locker room during the anthem and came out afterwards.

The teams' displays came after President Donald Trump said that NFL owners should fire any "son of a bitch" player who took a knee during the national anthem.

Chicago Bears management released a statement from Chairman George McCaskey that read:

The Chicago Bears are proud to support our players, coaches and all members of our organization to bring peace and unity together through football. What makes this the greatest country in the world are the liberties it was founded upon and the freedom to express oneself in a respectful and peaceful manner. Throguh important dialogue with our players and team, this divisive political situation has unified our franchise for the present and future.
