Texas Relays

One of the coolest things about the Texas Relays beyond watching some of the very best college and high school track and field athletes is seeing Olympians do their thing as well.

Especially when those Olympians are home grown like Leo Manzano, the pride of Marble Falls. The 2012 Olympic silver medalist in the 1500 meters headlined the 800 Meter Invitational.

Manzano says he had a couple set-backs this spring so he's not in his usual relays form although he does say his training's going well now.

Manzano finished fifth but his event, the 1500 in Rio, is still almost five months away.

Manzano says, "Overall picture this year is the Olympics. We have to run through August into September. So it's March going into April, I think we're in a good spot. I love it, as you can see, this is a family event. I was able to bring Max, my son, out. He absolutely loves it. It's just a family atmosphere event. I definitely hope everyone will get to experience it."

The heptathlon and decathlon wrapped up at Myers Stadium and UT was happy to have sophomore Ashtin Zamzow on its side. The transfer from Texas A&M breaks the Longhorns record in the heptathlon. Her finish in the 800 good enough to raise the lofty bar at Texas.
