Bowie HS football first practice

Bowie High School is one of several area high school football teams taking the field for their first practice.

One guy who isn't working out on the first day is highly touted senior receiver Elijah Higgins. The four star receiver is recovering from a left arm injury.

Higgins has narrowed down his college choices to Texas, Stanford, Ohio State and Florida. He says he expects to be back early in the season.

The Bulldogs will definitely need Higgins as they're now back in the same district as state powers Lake Travis and Westlake.

"It'll bring out the best in us. We'll just compete a lot better and grind a lot harder than we're used to," Higgins says. "So, it'll make us a better team and I think we'll be a lot more excited for the games and things like that."

Bowie head football coach Jeff Ables says that he and team know it's "gonna be a tough district" week in and week out.

"I'll be looking forward to playing Westlake and Lake Travis," senior defensive lineman Cooper Laake says. "But it's going to be a week by week, game by game basis. So we're not gonna star anyone specifically to try and not try against."
