Crockett HS girls basketball team breaking program records

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The Crockett High School girls basketball team is state ranked and breaking program records.

It's not a position the Cougars are used to being in. Not just in girls basketball but any sport.

"Historically, we've been successful, but we haven't had extreme success," Crockett girls basketball coach Jennifer Shuttlesworth says.

That is until this season.

The Crockett girls basketball team has won a school record 27 games and are the state's 21st ranked team in Class 5A. 

The team was recently as ranked as high as fourth.

Coach Shuttlesworth says, "They're super hungry to be successful.  We had a lot of fun years over the years, but this one has been really special."

It's something senior guard Jordyn Carter agrees with. "It's just extremely fun, because no one would think we're in this because we're the underdogs in that situation. And we're actually coming out winning and on top."

With all the team has accomplished so far, the Cougars definitely want to continue to make even more school history. 

They've never won a district championship and despite making the playoffs in each of the past 11 season they've never made it past the first round.

Carter says, "I have so much faith in my team to make it past it. And we all know like, especially with our seniors. We know this is our last year."

Coach Shuttlesworth has faith in the team too. 

"Winning bi-district would be huge. Because in the past we weren't ready for certain types of teams, and didn't compete well when it came time for that in the playoffs. So I'm hoping that we're more prepared than ever to face whoever we might be facing," Shuttlesworth says.

And players say the winning is not only fun and great for them.

"We're making the school look good. We're representing Crockett basically. We're representing Crockett," senior forward Iraijah Jackson says.
