TCU at Big 12 Media Days

Gary Patterson’s TCU Horned Frogs are the conference favorites heading into the season. The team is predicted to be on top at the finish come early December.

The Horned Frogs and Head Coach Patterson made the short trip from Fort Worth to visit with the media for Big 12 Media Days in Dallas.

The Frogs are the media's preseason pick to win the Big 12 due in large part to senior quarterback Trevone Boykin.  Boykin is the early favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Boykin says, "I really just want to get out there and play.”

Boykin and other players on the team agree that the media attention has been fun but they’re trying to keep it all in perspective.

“It comes with the territory. We don't need to let this get to our team's head just because of the success,” Boykin says.

Senior offensive lineman Joey Hunt says, “Trey's gonna get a lot of publicity.  He's gotten that over this past spring already.  So he's gotten used to it.  And we're real good about just not worrying about everything outside.  We're a real tight locker room."

Boykin saw his share of struggles early in his career before amassing more total yards last season than the previous two years combined.

Boykin says, "I really didn’t pay attention to a lot of the numbers.  I was really just focused on if we won the game or not.  We competed every day and I honestly think that made me a better quarterback.  Coming in knowing the starting job is not guaranteed to you.  So you really just come in and work for that every day and it made us a better team."

"He (Boykin) did a great job of being productive but not giving the ball back to them.  I thought he made better decisions.  Hopefully he'll do an even better job this year," Patterson says.

Boykin says, "I came to TCU to play quarterback.  And they were really one of the only schools that gave me a chance to play quarterback.  So that's why I really stuck with them.  I felt like it's worked out for the best."
