UT football team helps with playground renovations

Renovations are underway at the Oak Springs Elementary School playground which police say was set on fire in April. There has been a lot of community support since then including from the University of Texas football team.

Around 100 players teamed up with the Austin Parks Foundation for a mulching project over the weekend. It will benefit all the trees especially those that received burn damage or stress caused by the fire.

Austin ISD says the damage from the fire is estimated at $95,000.

There have been several generous donations in hopes of restoring the playground back to its original state.

This was the first volunteer day for renovations. There will be others scheduled later in the summer to help with painting and storage unit projects.
