CBP: Woman attempted to smuggle meth disguised as a bag of burritos

- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say officers arrested two women after they attempted to smuggle drugs across the Mexico-Arizona border.

On Saturday, May 20 at the Port of Nogales, officers referred a 23-year-old Nogales, Arizona woman for further inspection after crossing the Morley Pedestrian Gate. She claimed to have a bag of burritos, but officers determined the packages were more than one pound of meth. The drugs are worth over $3,000.

The following day, officers at the DeConcini crossing referred a 60-year-old Glendale, Arizona woman for further inspection of her Ford truck. After a drug canine alerted the to the truck's tailgate, they found 27 pounds of meth, worth nearly $82,000, along with over three pounds of heroin, worth nearly $54,000.

Also on May 21, a 43-year-old male Mexican national and his 40-year-old spouse were referred tor an inspection of their car at the Nogales West/Mariposa crossing. With the assistance of a narcotics canine, officers found almost 24 pounds of cocaine, valued at nearly $271,000, along with nearly 10 pounds of meth, worth over $28,000.

Officers seized the vehicles and drugs. The individuals were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security investigations. Their names were not released.
