Former registered sex offender accused of breaking into woman's home completely naked

A Mooresville woman received a shock early Tuesday morning after police say a former registered sex offender broke into her home in his birthday suit.

Mooresville Police were called about 2 a.m. to the 400 block of Hillside Drive. The caller told police that a man broke in and appeared to be in the nude. When the suspect saw the homeowner he then took off on foot, according to police.

Investigators say the homeowner’s 15-year-old daughter was also home at the time.

A K9 officer located the suspect, 51-year-old William Arthur Moss, hiding in a wooded area behind the victim’s home, police said.

Moss was arrested without incident and taken to the Iredell County Jail.

The people living in the home were not harmed, police said.

Moss has been charged with first degree burglary, second degree trespassing, secret peeping and indecent exposure.

Maj. Childress with Mooresville Police tells FOX46 Moss does have a criminal history of similar charges and previously had to register as a sex offender from 1999 until 2008.

Moss is being held under $100,000 secured bond.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, according to police.
