Man called 911 over drive-thru order

- A Polk County man is behind bars after police say he dialed 911 to complain about his order from Checkers. John May, 53, can be heard on a 911 call asking for an officer to respond because his drive-thru order was incorrect.

"I asked them to correct it," May told the 911 dispatcher in a recording released FOX 13 News. "The manager on staff... She told me that she wouldn't correct and just leave."

At that point, May was transferred to a Winter Haven Police Department dispatcher.

"She actually closed the window on me," he told the dispatcher. "That's insubordination!"

The conversation between May and the dispatcher continued.

"I need to know what's going on," the dispatcher told May. "What's happening? Why do you need an officer?"

"Because the food that they sold me is incorrect," May responded.

Winter Haven police officers did respond to the Checkers at 940 Havendale Blvd. When they arrived, they say May admitted that there was not an emergency, and he wanted officers to have the manager correct his order.

May was arrested and charged with misuse of 911 and trespassing.

"It should be noted that when officers arrived," a city spokesperson added, "more than half of May's food was already consumed."
