Interstate-77 SB at West Blvd. Exit 9C is back open after 50,000 pounds of potatoes spilled all over the highway early Friday morning.

Crews were cleaning-up the potatoes and diesel fuel since the early morning hours. Potatoes that had diesel fuel on them could not go in a regular landfill, according to authorities.

A tractor-trailer overturned causing the spuds to spill on I-77 SB at West Blvd. Exit 9C near John Belk Frwy.

Authorities said the driver fell asleep at the wheel and suffered non-life threatening injuries. He will be charged with reckless driving, according to authorities.
