High winds fuel flames of NE Austin house fire

The high winds are proving to be a major fire concern today. A house in northeast Austin is a total loss after the winds fueled the flames. Two parents and their teen son are without a home.

Officials say it started a little before 8 a.m. Pflugerville and Austin firefighters responded and saw heavy fire coming from the backside of the house.

Crews immediately went into defensive mode, officials say, because of the 30 to 40 mph winds.

It's not clear what started the fire but the wind spread embers to the house right next to it. Firefighters were able to stop that fire before it consumed another house.

The house did have smoke alarms.

There is a dog that is still missing. The Red Cross is assisting the family but neighbors tell FOX 7 Austin that the neighborhood is very close knit and they'll make sure the family has all they need.
