Hoax bomb threats made in Central Texas and across U.S.
Officials say that bomb threats made across Central Texas and all over the U.S. were a hoax.
In Austin, the Austin Police Department says it was impacted by the email bomb threats and responded to 24 calls. No devices were found and officials say the threats were not proved to be credible. APD says it will continue to monitor the situation.
The San Marcos Police Department says it was contacted by Blue Skies Aviation at the San Marcos Regional Airport at around 1:40 p.m. yesterday (12/13) because it received an email saying there was an explosive hidden in the building.
The email said if the building was evacuated or if police responded the device would be detonated. It went on to say demand a payment made in cryptocurrency.
San Marcos police contacted Austin police who informed San Marcos PD that businesses around Texas and the country had received similar emails.
Officials say Blue Skies employees were evacuated and officers swept the location. No suspicious items were found.
San Marcos PD asks that if anyone received similar emails to report to them at 512-753-2108.
The Killeen Police Department also released a statement saying it investigated similar emails and found them to not be credible.
All law enforcement agencies ask the public to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to their local authorities.
