Local events held to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thousands of people are expected to come together in the Austin area to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a citywide march and rally will be held to honor the civil rights leader.

The event is being held for the 26th consecutive year and the theme this year is "Unity Wins".

Festivities really started last week so the celebration is culminating with today's events.

First the march will begin at the MLK statue on the University of Texas campus after a brief program.

Participants will then make their way to Huston-Tillotson University for a festival where various activities and performances will go on.

Normally the march makes a stop at the Capitol but due to the legislative session that is not happening this year.
