One dead, multiple injured after oil well explodes in Burleson County
BURLESON COUNTY, Texas - An oil well has exploded in Burleson County.
According to an official with the Texas Department of Public Safety, a call came in around 3:30 p.m. about an explosion at Chesapeake Energy off of CR 127 near FM 50. The official has reported the explosion happened on a "workover rig" and is being reported as a "workover well blowout."
One contractor died at the scene. Two of the injured were airlifted to a hospital in Austin and one was airlifted to a hospital in Houston.
The fire is still burning at this time and the company is determining whether to put the fire out or allow it to burn out.
A few homes in the area have been evacuated.
Injuries have been reported but how many are unknown at this time.
