North Austin mobile home fire injures 6 people

The Austin Fire Department is investigating what started a mobile home fire in North Austin that left six people injured.

The fire happened just before 11:45 p.m. on May 17 on Research Boulevard near North Lamar.

AFD says two mobile homes were on fire when they arrived.

Austin-Travis County EMS reports that six people were taken to the hospital, three of them are children.

One of the adult victims has critical injuries and one adult and two children have serious injuries.

"It was the three adults which were the mom, stepdad, the oldest son and then the three little …one sister and two brothers," said a friend of the family, who wishes to remain anonymous.

"Luis is on a ventilator, he did inhale most of the smoke. His little siblings, from what I’m aware of they took them to San Antonio," said the family friend.

She said later on Wednesday, two of the family members were discharged from the hospital. The family is accepting donations to help her back on their feet.

AFD said the cause was accidental, and the fire did $150,000 of damage to the mobile home and $10,000 to the adjacent property.
