PRODUCER

FOX 7 Austin is looking for an overnight producer for our Morning Show. Shift is 11:00 PM–8:00 AM.
Position oversees the overnight development, preparation, and production of content for early-morning newscasts.
This position plays a critical role in shaping the day’s first newscast by identifying breaking news, developing enterprise and follow-up stories, and preparing content that informs and engages viewers starting their day.
The Producer must be creative, energetic, with strong writing skills, well informed, well read and be willing to take chances and try new things. This role requires creativity, urgency, and decisiveness, with a focus on delivering compelling, accurate, and timely news content under tight deadlines.
The Producer works collaboratively with newsroom staff to ensure the strongest possible start to the broadcast day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to editorial decision-making for overnight and early-morning newscasts, including breaking news, developing stories, and follow-ups from the previous day
- Develop, pitch, and execute story ideas with a focus on morning-show relevance and viewer needs
- Monitor local, national, and overnight news sources to identify breaking or developing stories
- Write and manage content for early-morning newscasts, news updates, and special coverage
- Prepare show rundowns, scripts, teases, and transitions with strong pacing and clarity
- Coordinate with assignment desk, reporters, and photographers to deploy overnight and early-morning coverage as needed
- Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards related to news content
- Create and approve scripts for broadcast, digital, and social platforms
- Build graphics and supers to support on-air storytelling
- Provide content for web and social media platforms during overnight and early-morning hours
- Assist in planning and producing live and/or taped coverage, including breaking news situations that occur overnight
- Meet all overnight and early-morning deadlines while maintaining accuracy and editorial standards
- Participate in editorial meetings and provide a clear handoff to incoming daytime producers and managers
- Communicate with colleagues at other Fox O&O stations regarding overnight and morning content sharing
- Operate iNews, BitCentral, and other newsroom systems and equipment
- Maintain regular attendance and reliability during overnight hours
- Comply with all FTS computer requirements and station policies, including security, ethics, and equipment responsibility

At FOX 7, we no longer wait for appointed times to deliver content. Our strategy is 24/7 content delivery.
Throughout your shift, we’ll be leaning on you to distribute live content or through channels like Slack to help meet the needs of our audience.
On many days, you’ll be paired with a reporter who will also create and distribute content with this same mindset.
Other days you may be working independently, and we may even suggest you be part of our on-air content delivery through live voice-overs or even an occasional live on-camera appearance to help us tell the story.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to evolve shooting and editing skills beyond linear television thinking and workflows.
We’re evolving our content to embrace non-traditional storytelling formats that deliver relevant, memorable, and impactful storytelling. This means fewer "TV news packages" and more of the storytelling techniques preferred by digital audiences.
Job Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in small to medium sized markets is preferred, but we will consider all forms of photographer / editing work, not just previous television experience.
- Your resume and reel should reflect a daily focus on compelling storytelling for digital platforms.
- You must be willing to work early mornings, late-night shifts, weekends and holidays as needed and be able to travel for out-of-town assignments.
- Austin experiences year round high impact weather events and newsroom staff must be available to work on site or in the field when scheduled.

PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN
FOX 7 Austin has an opening for a Full-Time Production Technician to join our news team. This role is essential to the technical execution of our live news products, requiring a mix of control room expertise and hands-on studio maintenance. The successful candidate will be a high-energy individual capable of navigating the fast-paced environment of a top-tier news station.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation & Switching: Execute live news broadcasts by switching and coding via the Ross Overdrive Automation System.
- Technical Operations: Operate Chyron graphics software, manage robotic camera systems, and handle live audio mixing.
- Live Coverage: Facilitate tune-in for microwave live shots and manage technical needs for both livestream and pre-recorded programming.
- Studio Maintenance: Handle physical studio needs including lighting adjustments and flooring for live newscasts.
- Flexibility: Cover vacation and sick leave shifts as assigned to ensure continuous broadcast operations.
Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in a live control room environment as a Director or Technical Director.
- Technical Skills: Experience mixing sound for live news and a deep understanding of broadcast automation.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Lifting & Moving: Must be able to lift, carry, and move equipment or studio flooring materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Technical Mobility: Ability to climb ladders and reach overhead to adjust studio lighting and equipment.
- Extended Shifts: Ability to remain stationary (sitting or standing) for the duration of a live broadcast, often 2 to 4 hours at a time.
- Sensory Acuity: Must have excellent hearing for audio mixing and clear vision for monitoring multiple video feeds and color-coding.
- Availability: Must be able to work flexible hours; early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays are required based on the news cycle.

As we continue to evolve, we’re hiring a News Reporter with fill-in anchor potential who has a passion for creating content across live streaming news programs, digital news sites, social media platforms and linear news broadcasts.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have already evolved your mindset beyond linear television thinking and workflows.
You should have a demonstrated track record of executing non-traditional storytelling formats using video, text, graphics and music.
The content you create will be designed for our live stream, website, Linear News and social platforms.
To boil it down even further: We’re not big on traditional old school TV news packages and we challenge our content creators to tell stories for all platforms.
You’ll be a part of our highly successful morning news team, taking ownership of the day’s big stories, in the field and in-studio.
While your content will be distributed to digital and social platforms first, on most days you’ll also appear on linear broadcasts and streaming news shows.
A minimum of 3 years of experience as a reporter and anchor will get you noticed. A reel that demonstrates your ability to shoot, edit and produce content will move you up the list even further.

MAINTENANCE ENGINEER
KTBC Fox 7, a Fox-owned and operated TV station in downtown Austin, TX, is seeking a full-time customer service-focused and team-oriented Maintenance Engineer.
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining video, audio, and other television broadcast and non-broadcast equipment, including data networks including SMPTE ST 2110 standards, production control switchers, audio mixers, automation systems, routing switchers, server-based record and play-out systems, non-linear editors, encoders, decoders and multiplexers, newsroom computer systems, media streaming systems, and RF transmission equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide paramount customer service and collaboration with other departments.
- Collaborate with an astute engineering team to design, install, test, and document new systems and equipment as assigned.
- Manage and maintain data networks while conforming to our Information Security Team's strict policies.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance to all systems supporting broadcast operations for live and production events.
- Accurately troubleshoot and repair technical faults quickly to minimize loss of service. • Perform software and hardware updates, tests, and installation as required.
- Provide technical assistance and training to the technical operating staff on day-to-day operations and workflows.
- Practice, teach, and encourage best engineering standards and practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Applicant must have the ability to solve complex problems and the capacity to concentrate for long periods.
- Must have a solid working knowledge of broadcast and network systems. Experience in RF and fiber optic workflows is desirable.
- Applicant must be able to work in a proactive, not a reactive, environment.
- Candidate must be able to work in a team collaborative environment and be a self-starter without direct supervision.
- Must be flexible with changes in workflows, a clear communicator, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
- Applicants with prior experience in television, radio broadcast engineering, or similar technical disciplines are preferred.
- An associate degree with an emphasis in Engineering/ IT is preferred, or at least four years of equivalent industry experience is needed.
- Applicant must be able to climb ladders up to 20 feet, lift 40 pounds, and work in tight spaces. • Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Must be able to work fully onsite, either at the station's Studio or Transmitter.
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required to drive company vehicles.
- Must pass a background check.
