Third case of impersonating a police officer reported
For the third time in less than two weeks, the Hay's County Sheriff's Office said fake cop has tried to pull someone over. They are warning everyone, but especially those that drive on FM 2001 to be very careful and make sure it's an actual cop if you’re being pulled over.
Calvin Fitch is a Hays County resident, “I live off of 2001, and it keeps happening. It's only on the 2001 stretch that it keeps happening. ” He said hearing of yet another incident of someone trying to pull people over impersonating a cop near his home is quite unnerving. “It's not just targeting women. It's men and women, old and young, nobody really knows what his intentions are,” he said.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office said a person in a truck puts on emergency lights and attempts to pull people over, all on FM 2001.
The first incident was March 16th, near Goforth Road. The second was March 23rd near Satterwhite Road.
Last incident was March 27th near Windy Hill Road. All with the same vehicle description, and same circumstances. The victims think they are being pulled over because of the red and blue lights flashing on the dash, all of them drive away when they don't see any law enforcement markings or a person in uniform.
But in the most recent incident, the victim got a good look at the fake cop.
He's described as a white man, about 5'9" with a medium build, medium length dark hair wearing shorts and a t-shirt. All victims reported the man driving a white Chevy truck, with damage to the front and left side.
The Sheriff's Office and Fitch are hoping the community may be able to figure out who's doing this before someone gets hurt. “If he's trying to steal your car or he's trying to rob the person or what, yeah it's definitely concerning,” Fitch said.

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler wants to remind citizens that if you are unsure of the legitimacy of a law enforcement traffic stop by an unmarked vehicle to follow some simple steps.
- Alert the stopping officer that you are aware that they are attempting to stop you by activating your vehicle's emergency flashers and proceed to the nearest lighted area following the posted speed limit.
- You may call 911 to advise dispatch of your concerns and where you are stopping i.e. convenience store / church / restaurant.
- All law enforcement officers are required to carry official identification cards and can be requested to produce them to ensure you that they are peace officers; whether they are in uniform or plain clothes.
