BMI at SXSW

The music portion of SXSW is underway, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), a performing rights organization, has been bringing artists here since the South by Southwest started.

Tuesday night, it held its 15th Annual Howdy Texas Party at Stubbs sponsored by DTS Audio. Good Day Austin anchor Lauren Petrowski was the host for the evening.

This year's showcase featured several singer songwriters including Cody Brooks, who's from Nashville and is playing in Austin for the first time.

Brooks say, "Austin is blowing my mind right now. You hear the story and the legend about Austin. But it's not until you see it and smell it and you're walking around in it that you really appreciate it."

Those with BMI say they're committed to developing the craft of singer songwriters and SXSW is the place to do that.

Mark Mason says, "BMI was the original sponsor of SXSW many years ago and we've been back every year and this year we have 58 acts performing at our eight different events".
