Iran latest: Vance arrives in Switzerland for high-stakes US talks
The latest round of peace talks between the United States and Iran is expected to begin on Sunday in Switzerland. Vice President JD Vance, who will lead the U.S. delegation, departed for the summit on Saturday afternoon, telling reporters before he left that Iranian leaders had already arrived in the European nation.
The two sides are set to negotiate the technical details of the memorandum of understanding signed by both sides earlier this week. That initial agreement provided a 60-day window during which specifics such as what would become of Iran’s nuclear fuel would be finalized.
The negotiations come a day after Iran warned it had shut down the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israeli attacks in Lebanon. Additionally, President Donald Trump indicated that the U.S. may charge tolls for passage through the strait if the peace deal is not completed by the time that 60-day window ends.
