Argentina overtakes Egypt at Atlanta Stadium 3-2
Argentina has advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals after coming from behind to defeat Egypt at Atlanta Stadium on Tuesday.
The Pharaohs' historic tournament run came to an end after Enzo Fernandez knocked in a header to put La Albiceleste ahead in stoppage time.
Egypt could not find their way back to the top, and numerous players were yellow-carded in the aftermath of the goal.
Before the end, Egypt took an early lead in the 15th minute after Yasser Ibrahim silenced the crowd with the go-ahead goal.
The Pharaohs maintained that lead and doubled down in the 67th minute when Mostafa Ziko found the back of the net, putting them up 2-0.
Argentina had launched a relentless late-match onslaught with Lionel Messi hitting the equalizing goal in the 83rd minute.
Argentina will now face the winner of Switzerland vs. Colombia.
