Spain ends Ronaldo, Portugal's World Cup run at Dallas Stadium

Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup dreams ended on Monday, as they lost 1-0 to Iberian rival Spain at Dallas Stadium in the World Cup Round of 16.

Spain scored in stoppage time to send their rivals home, and themselves into the World Cup's quarterfinals, their first time reaching the tournament's final eight since 2010.

All eyes were on Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo in what was likely his final World Cup match. He told reporters this would be his last year in the tournament.

Spain is looking for its first World Cup win since 2010. At that time, Spanish superstar Lamine Yamal was just 3 years old.

Considered the next generation of the sport, this is the 18-year-old’s first World Cup. He’s the youngest goalscorer in Spain’s history, scoring less than 10 minutes into his debut in the group stage against Saudi Arabia.
