LIVE | Portugal vs. Spain in World Cup Round of 16 at Dallas Stadium
Portugal faces Spain at Dallas Stadium in the World Cup Round of 16 on Monday afternoon.
All eyes will likely be on Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo in what could be his final World Cup match. He told reporters this would be his last year in the tournament.
But the 41-year-old Portuguese player is hoping to turn the attention away from himself and onto the pitch as his team fights its longtime rivals for a second consecutive spot in the quarterfinals.
Portugal is ranked 7th and finished second in its group with two draws.
Spain is looking for its first World Cup win since 2010. At that time, Spanish superstar Lamine Yamal was just 3 years old.
Considered the next generation of the sport, this is the 18-year-old’s first World Cup. He’s the youngest goalscorer in Spain’s history, scoring less than 10 minutes into his debut in the group stage against Saudi Arabia.
The teen hopes to lead his team to the quarterfinals. The last time Spain reached the quarterfinals was also in 2010 after defeating Portugal in the Round of 16.
Monday’s match kicks off on FOX 4 at 2 p.m.
