7 injured in Louisiana mass shooting, more hurt trying to escape

A late-night mass shooting outside a nightclub in a small Louisiana town on Sunday injured seven people, while even more individuals were hurt as they tried to escape the scene.

The Thibodaux Police Department indicated the shooting happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of East 10th Street and Narrow Street in the southern Louisiana town, about an hour south-west of New Orleans.

What we know:

Seven people suffered gunshot wounds in the incident. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, the police department reported. Its statement added that others were hurt as they fled the area, but it did not say how many.

What we don't know:

The police department did not provide any information about what led to the incident, nor did authorities say how many people may have fired shots.

Detectives with the police department have been collecting evidence, following up on leads, and talking to witnesses as they continue to investigate the shooting. The police department added that it intends to release more information when it is possible to do so without compromising the investigation.
