A popular soda brand is getting a new look and a new taste. 7UP debuted a fresh look for its beverage lineup and revealed that its signature product has been reformulated with a "lime-forward" profile.

Big picture view:

7UP’s parent company Keurig Dr Pepper revealed the coming changes Monday, saying that the new formula will feature lime more prominently, to the point that they are labeling the sodas "lime lemon" as opposed to the "lemon-lime" description normally used for the category.

It explained that it wants the soft drink that likes to describe itself as the "Original Uncola" to embrace an identity that will allow it to stand out in the beverage aisle and called the moves the biggest shift for the product in more than 15 years.

What they're saying:

"This is a bold reinvention of one of America’s most iconic soda brands for a new generation of consumers – starting with the flavor itself," said Drew Panayiotou, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer at Keurig Dr Pepper. "7UP has an incredible legacy, but by giving lime the spotlight, we’re rewriting the rules of the lemon lime category."

What's next:

The new formula will extend past regular 7UP to include its Zero Sugar, Cherry and Cherry Zero Sugar variations, the statement noted. It will begin rolling out this month alongside a new "Flip the Sip" marketing campaign.

Dig deeper:

The company hopes its latest formula will prove to be the recipe to reach a younger demographic. Its statement highlighted the taste preferences of Gen Z and the even younger Gen Alpha, as described by its State of Beverages 2026 Report, as helping guide its choices in how to recraft the longtime soft drink’s latest taste.

What they're saying:

Panayiotou addressed the nearly century-old history of 7UP by saying, "We are transforming a beloved heritage brand into a modern disruptor—delivering a sharper visual identity, a more refreshing taste experience, and a distinct position that attracts new users and deepens brand loyalty."
