Austin police investigating officer involved shooting

Austin police say that a dead body discovered in a car in East Austin is believed to be one of the people involved in an officer involved shooting in downtown Austin earlier this morning.

Police found the dark Maseratti Levante in the Mueller area at Zack Scott Street and Tillery Street with the body inside.

The body is believed to be a black male in his 20s and police say his clothing matches the description of one of the people in the one of the vehciles from the morning incident.

There is no positive identification at this time. 

Police say they are still on the lookout for a Chevy Monte Carlo SS, dark in color, with light colored racing stripes down the center, collision damage on its right front corner panel.

The officer involved shooting happened on the I-35 west frontage road and 7th Street near the Gulf gas station.

EMS responded to a victim of a gunshot wound at just before 3 a.m. The victim was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Officials say that the incident started with a minor car crash which escalated into an argument. Those involved in the crash began getting physical with one another and guns were pulled out.

When police responded four officers shot at the suspects and both cars took off.

No officers were hurt.

The shooting incident happened just hours after another shooting on East 6th Street and it was one of several shootings that happened in Austin over the weekend.
